Grandmother Wins ï¿¡150k After People’s Postcode Lottery Tickets Mistake

A retired grandmother in Scotland is celebrating a life-changing lottery win of more than ï¿¡150,000 after she inadvertently bought more entries than intended.

When addresses at ML5 3PL landed the People’s Postcode Lottery weekly Millionaire Street prize, each entry was awarded ï¿¡38,461 in winnings.

But a former insurance worker had four entries into the lottery, so she quadrupled her winnings and instead got ï¿¡153,844 in the draw.

Geraldine previously played the People’s Postcode Lottery with a single entry but after retiring from her job a few months ago she decided to add a second ticket.

She accidentally bought an extra three passes into the lottery instead of just one more entry and decided to keep them even after noticing the error.

It was a stroke of luck for the mother-of-two, who will now be able to celebrate her 40th wedding anniversary with husband Paul in style.

“I always just played with one ticket but, when I retired, I thought I would up it to two but hit four by mistake,” she explained in an interview.

“When I went on to try and change it back to two, I thought I couldn’t be bothered so I just kept them all.”

Cruises on the Menu

Geraldine and Paul had already booked a trip to Gran Canaria to mark their ruby wedding anniversary but are now plotting more trips thanks to their unexpected lottery windfall.

“We’ll get a couple of more holidays and treat the family. They deserve it. I’d love a family holiday,” she told the People’s Postcode Lottery website.

“Paul loves Las Vegas. We went to see Rod Stewart there and saw Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden in New York. I want to go back to New York. I’ve always wanted to see it near Christmas. We like cruises, but we’ve only ever done the Med. We were on one in May, but we could go further afield now.”

Geraldine added she will continue to pay for four entries into the People’s Postcode Lottery, which costs ï¿¡12 a month to play.

Couple Scoops ï¿¡115k on Same Draw

Geraldine’s neighbours in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, were also celebrating their good fortune.

Lee and Thomas had three entries between them so won over ï¿¡115,000 when their postcode came up in the weekly draw.

Nurse practitioner Lee plans to spend some of the money on a family trip to Disneyland with their boy Felix, while Celtic fan Thomas has his eye on Champions League football tickets.

“Oh my God, I can’t believe this. It’s more money than I’ve ever had in my life,” said Lee.

“We’ll do house stuff. We might look at new floors, windows and gutters. Kind of boring stuff. And we’ll spoil our wee boy. Get him anything he wants.”

The People’s Postcode Lottery pays out 33% of the ticket price to charity, with over ï¿¡1.3 billion having been sent to good causes as a result of the game.
