Sky is one of Europe’s leading media, entertainment and connectivity companies. Under the new agreement, the company will become the official partner of the Guild esports team and organization which is co-owned by David Beckham.

The first phase of the new three-year partnership will see Sky’s ultrafast, full-fibre broadband powering Guild’s London headquarters. Sky has stated joining forces will offer UK gamers a next-generation esports experience.

The Need for Fast Reliable Speed

“With over 17 million passionate gamers playing over seven hours a week across the UK, the gaming revolution is set to continue. It is why Sky, with its fast and reliable full-fibre broadband, and Guild are coming together to help enhance the experience for gamers,” said the organization in a press release delivered on Monday.

“Together, Sky and Guild are committed to supporting and developing the gaming community, with an initial focus in three core areas: Women in gaming – providing greater opportunities for women in the esports industry.”

“Driving esports performance – leading the way in player performance and best practice coaching developments. And engaging audiences – bringing esports to Sky customers with exclusive competitions and experiences across all of Guild’s titles,” the statement read.

A Game Changer in London

As part of the partnership, Sky will be Guild’s official HQ, Wi-Fi, and Broadband and Mobile Network partner for the next three years, and the Guild Esports performance center in the heart of London’s Shoreditch will be named the Sky Guild Gaming Centre.

To transform the gaming experience, Sky Full-Fibre Broadband will power the center. Its reliable and game-changing speeds should give Guild’s professional players a faster edge as they learn, train, and compete online.

Sky’s branding will feature on a striking outdoor mural on the building and will be the headline partner on Guild’s team jersey for the 2022/23 season. The new jersey will be worn for the first time by Guild X, Guild’s all-female Valorant team, as they play in Riot’s Game Changer tournament this week.

Rory Moran, Director of Global Partnerships at Guild Esports, said: “We are incredibly proud to welcome Sky to Guild Esports, and be the first major partnership for Sky in esports. Sky is a media, entertainment, and connectivity powerhouse that will help drive Guild to the highest levels of performance in competitive esports globally.”

David Beckham, Investor in Guild Esports, added: “It’s great that Guild Esports has a fantastic new partner in Sky and I’m pleased to welcome them to the Guild family.”

Esports Is a Sound Bet

Guild Esports fields competitive teams in Apex Legends, Fortnite, FIFA, Rocket League, and Valorant. The best esports betting sites will offer some betting opportunities on these games and leagues. But, in terms of gambling market share, League of Legends (LoL), CS:GO and DOTA2 are the most popular by far.

In a May 2022 YouGov poll, 20 percent of adults aged between 18 and 44 in the US, UK, Australia, India, Germany, and Canada stated that betting on esports is something that interests them. A recent report also stated the global esports betting market had an estimated value of $10.03 billion in 2021. The figure is expected to rise to $23.76 billion by the year 2028.
