Atlantic City Blackjack Review – Play for Free & for Real Money

Scott Lawson Written By Scott Lawson Published on 22.01.2018 Last Updated on 06.06.2024

As you may have guessed, Atlantic City Blackjack is a variant of the original popular card game that is widely played in the casinos of Atlantic City. The overall method for the spin-off is largely the same, you want to beat the dealer and you want to get as close as you can to the number 21, without going over. In recent times, the game has been developed for online play by software juggernaut Microgaming and has steadily sprouted up in many different online operators’ gaming libraries. With simple gameplay, quirky audio and decent graphics, the game has gone on to achieve a cult status amongst the gaming community. Whilst there are many variants of Atlantic City Blackjack online, you can see my top recommended pick for playing below.

However, if you prefer to just get stuck into the nitty-gritty of the rules, I’ve got you covered. Just keep reading this Atlantic City Blackjack review and you will find more information on the rules and special features of this unique variant.

Atlantic City Blackjack – Rules and Special Features

If you have played a lot of different versions of blackjack in the past, you will know the setups are largely the same, only with a few different rules and perhaps adjusted payout rates to reflect the differing levels of risk. The game is played with up to eight decks and a dealer hole card may be used. In addition, the dealer must stand on a 17, however, they will be allowed to ‘peel’ to see if they have made a blackjack provided they have been dealt an Ace or card with the value of 10. Once the dealer has performed their peak, the player is allowed to opt for a late surrender.

If you want to, you can double down on two cards and split up to three times. Doubling down is immediately available once you have two cards and, of course, you can split once on an ace card and you will only receive one card back. One thing worth noting is that if you are a dealt a 10, having already split aces, whilst your hand will technically amount to 21, it will not be considered a blackjack.

A blackjack win pays 3:2 whilst an insurance bet pays 2:1. The insurance bet, in this case, allows you to place a bet against the possibility of the dealer getting a blackjack hand. You can only use this option if the dealer’s first card is an ace, however, it will cost you half of your original bet. Finally, the house edge for this game is estimated to be about 0.4%.
